Project managers are present in nearly any industry you can think of. In healthcare IT, the role is playing a vital part in implementing technology solutions to answer healthcare’s most important questions.
Professionals in this area oversee healthcare technology projects throughout their life cycle, while also monitoring and reporting on progress and obstacles throughout the process. It’s one of the most prominent and coveted business skills of recent years due to the project manager’s ability to manage cost and risk while improving outcomes. According to the Project Management Institute, the U.S. healthcare sector will see the biggest increase of project oriented careers of any industry with 17% job growth through 2027.
To take a closer look at the role of project manager, we spoke with Caroline Saavedra, a previous project manager at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL and a graduate of USF Health Online’s Master of Science in Health Informatics program.
