In the 2023 edition of the Best Graduate Schools from U.S. News & World Report, the Morsani College of Medicine and the programs it offers maintain their Top 50 status at No. 46 in the Best Medical Schools for Research category.
Additionally, the Morsani College of Medicine is ranked as one of the Best Medical Schools for Primary Care, coming in at No. 56. The U.S. News & World Report rankings also noted the Morsani College of Medicine for its diversity, both of the students and the diversity of the communities these students eventually serve. The Morsani College of Medicine was recognized as one of the Most Diverse Medical Schools (No. 65) and as one with the Most Graduates Practicing in Medically Underserved Areas (No. 35).
The high rankings are a testament to the continued commitment of USF faculty and administration in driving innovation and research at the highest levels.
“These [rankings] provide clear and unequivocal evidence of the sustained and disciplined commitment by all of us at USF Health to our pursuit of excellence in everything we do,” said Charles Lockwood, MD, MHCM, senior vice president for USF Health and dean of the Morsani College of Medicine.
“Over the past five years, we have seen a dramatic increase in the competitiveness of our students, impressive increases in our research funding, and rising peer assessment scores from the leadership of other leading universities.”
Ranking Methodologies
According to U.S. News & World Report’s methodologies, the “two distinct rankings of Best Medical Schools: Research and Best Medical Schools: Primary Care both evaluate schools on their faculty resources, the academic achievement of their entering students, and qualitative assessments by schools and residency directors. The research rankings include two measures of research productivity, while the primary care rankings incorporate two metrics on graduates going into primary care.”
The evaluations include the qualities students and faculty bring to the educational experience and graduates’ achievements linked to their degrees, such as job placement and research impact.
